To actively implement corporate ESG sustainable development concepts and demonstrate commitment to environmental protection, the Kaohsiung Blood Center of the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation held the "Environmental Sustainability – Hot-Blooded River Cleanup" event on November 28. Director Hong Chi-min led 15 supervisors and colleagues in enthusiastic participation, dedicating themselves to local environmental maintenance work through practical action.

The Kaohsiung Blood Center is located in Nanzi District, Kaohsiung City, adjacent to Houjin Creek. Before remediation, this creek was once heavily polluted by heavy industry and jokingly dubbed the "Black Dragon River" by locals. Later, through joint efforts by the city government and private enterprises, it took on a different look. Besides providing a waterfront space for the public, there are also trails for adults and children to jog and take walks.

However, where Houjin Creek flows through residential areas, it is inevitably subject to general waste discarded by nearby residents, resulting in many PET bottles, plastic bags, and beverage bottles. Therefore, under the call of Director Hong Chi-min, the team chose the afternoon of November 28 to take time out to clean the nearby creek. The center provided supplies such as tongs and trash bags. Starting from the center, they conducted a cleaning inspection along Qingtian Street, Huifeng Bridge, and Houjin Creek to the Painted Wall and Demin Bridge area, then crossed to the other side of the creek for the return journey, covering a round trip of about 2 kilometers.

Lin Yi-ching, Chief of the Administration Section at Kaohsiung Blood Center, pointed out that 15 colleagues participated in the cleanup. When the group walked to the local community activity center, Zhang Yi-lin, the neighborhood chief of Huifeng Village, and other residents came out to wave and greet them, enthusiastically asking if they needed mineral water for hydration or any other assistance.

Lin Yi-ching stated that they originally thought there wouldn't be much trash to pick up during this cleanup. However, colleagues did not overlook any trash, big or small, along the way. By the return trip, almost everyone was holding a bag of trash, totaling 11 bags of various sizes. "It was a bit unexpected, but it was a worthwhile trip."

Director Hong Chi-min stated that the center's river cleanup activity received a positive response from supervisors and colleagues, demonstrating the enterprise's actual investment in environmental issues and symbolizing that the ESG sustainability spirit has gradually been integrated into the corporate culture. In particular, the "walking cleanup" method embodies the Blood Center's role as a "good neighbor in the community." It not only restored the beauty of the environment along the nearby Houjin Creek but also increased colleagues' emphasis on environmental protection. In the future, the center will continue to promote more environmental sustainability actions to fulfill corporate social responsibility and contribute to the positive development of society and the environment.
