Taiwan Blood Services Foundation’s Sustainability Report received the Gold Award in the "Corporate Sustainability Report – Government and NGO Group – Category 2" from the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) at the 2024 Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA). The award was presented during the 17th TCSA Award Ceremony on December 11, 2024.

Taiwan Blood Services Foundation’s Sustainability Report received the Gold Award in the "Corporate Sustainability Report – Government and NGO Group – Category 2" from TCSA.
The foundation designated 2022 as its "Year of Sustainability" and published its first Sustainability Report that same year. This report earned a Silver Award in the same TCSA category, providing the foundation with confidence to further its sustainability efforts. In 2024, the foundation published its second report and was honored with the Gold Award, reflecting its steady progress in promoting voluntary non-remunerated blood donation and demonstrating strength in broader sustainability initiatives.
The Sustainability Report highlights achievements in the three ESG pillars—Environmental, Social, and Governance—as well as alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Built around the core of voluntary non-remunerated blood donation, the report identifies five key highlights: digital transformation and service upgrades, environmental innovation and carbon reduction, blood safety and technological innovation, youth education and social participation, and global integration.
The foundation continues to replace traditional methods with technology and automation to enhance services for donors and ensure blood transfusion safety for patients. For instance, donors can use the "Donor Portal" to access their donation records, test reports, and make appointments anytime. Additionally, the foundation fully supplies "leukocyte-reduced" blood products, conducts extended testing, and labels secondary red blood cell antigens, enabling hospitals to quickly obtain antigen-negative blood for matching, reducing patient wait times, and ensuring precise use of blood.
A notable initiative includes replacing fuel-powered bloodmobiles with electric vehicles to provide a more comfortable space for donors while reducing noise and emissions. This effort, which promotes environmental friendliness and reduces carbon emissions, earned the foundation the 2023 TSAA Climate Action Bronze Award under SDG13. Other environmentally friendly measures include promoting green procurement and reducing excessive packaging for gifts, saving over 23,000 plastic bags annually. The foundation encourages public participation to drive meaningful change.
As part of its long-term efforts, the foundation published Taiwan’s first blood science book for teenagers, Easy Blood Lessons for Young Adults, which combines biotechnology and blood knowledge. The book won the 2023 Openbook Good Book Award and was also listed among Openbook’s SDG Top 100 Books of the Year. The foundation has donated copies to junior high schools and public libraries nationwide, aiming to influence more students and deepen blood donation education.
The above examples are just a few facets of Taiwan Blood Services Foundation’s sustainability initiatives. Amid the challenges of a declining birthrate and aging population, the foundation remains committed to innovation under the principles of "joyful donation, safe blood use." It continues to uphold its core mission to serve blood donors and ensure safety for blood recipients. This award serves as encouragement to further advance its mission, fostering acts of kindness that benefit society and ensuring a reliable supply of medical blood as a steadfast support for patients in need.
