The annual Taiwan Medical Association meeting was held this year from November 8 to 9, 2025, at the NTU Hospital International Convention Center, bringing together leading medical professionals from across the country and showcasing the latest research achievements. Serving as a platform for knowledge exchange, the event also enabled clinicians to stay abreast of the latest treatment guidelines and future trends, collectively striving to enhance public health and well-being.

As Taiwan’s sole non-profit blood donation and supply organization, the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation operates under the guiding principle of “Happy Donation, Safe Transfusion.” The Foundation bears the critical responsibility of blood collection, testing, component separation, storage, and final distribution to medical institutions nationwide, serving as an indispensable pillar of Taiwan’s healthcare system. At this exhibition, the Foundation focused on two core themes, underscoring its determination to safeguard blood safety and promote the “national blood for national use” policy:

I. Enhancing Transfusion Safety: Outcomes of Expanded Nucleic Acid Testing
A key feature of the booth was the introduction of Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT), currently the most sensitive method for detecting hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and HIV in blood. NAT significantly shortens the diagnostic “window period,” thereby reducing the risk of transfusion-transmitted infections. The Foundation conducts NAT screening on every donated blood unit; this rigorous standard elevates transfusion safety in Taiwan to an internationally recognized level.

II. Advancing Self-Sufficiency in National Blood Products: Toward Second-Generation National Blood Products
Another exhibition highlight was the promotion of the Foundation’s second-generation national blood products. National blood products are manufactured by separating plasma from blood donated by citizens and processing it at CSL Plasma facilities in Australia. The “national blood for national use” approach ensures a stable supply of blood products and helps prevent exposure to foreign infectious diseases. Through this exhibition, the Foundation also took the opportunity to communicate to the medical community the quality and safety of national blood products.
