On July 24, 2025, the Lions Club International Taiwan Headquarters held a donation ceremony in front of the Taoyuan City Hall Plaza for the “Tongji No. 3” Blood Donation Vehicle, the “Tongji No. 1” Blood Transport Vehicle, and a “Children’s Shuttle Bus.” A blood donation drive was also launched on the same day. The event was attended by Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan, Health Bureau Director Chia Wei, Education Bureau Chief Secretary Tsai Sheng-Hsien, Taoyuan District Director Hsu Min-Sung, Chairman Cheng Wen-Hua of the 51st Taoyuan District of the Lions Club International Taiwan Headquarters, President Chen Chi-Kang, Chairman Hu Chia-Chih of the 47th Taoyuan District, representatives from 50 Taoyuan sub-chapters, and Director Wang Yun-Long of the Hsinchu Blood Center. The presence of many enthusiastic citizens bore witness to this benevolent and hopeful public welfare event.

The donation ceremony of the “Tongji No. 3” Blood Donation Vehicle and the “Tongji No. 1” Blood Transport Vehicle was held at Taoyuan City Hall Plaza.
In his speech, Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan emphasized that Taiwan’s blood supply resources are under strain, and this donation will strengthen Taoyuan’s blood collection and distribution capacity, ensuring the availability of emergency blood supply. He expressed gratitude to the Lions Club for its continued dedication to public welfare, rallying 50 Taoyuan sub-chapters and enterprises to jointly donate one “Blood Donation Vehicle,” one “Blood Transport Vehicle,” and one “Children’s Shuttle Bus,” along with NT$398,000 in educational subsidies. With a total value exceeding NT$10 million, this donation demonstrates strong support for Taoyuan’s healthcare, education, and social care resources. The city government will put this generosity to good use, shining a light on every corner of Taoyuan.

Chairman Cheng Wen-Hua of the 51st Taoyuan District stated that this year’s total donation in Taoyuan exceeded NT$10 million, ranking among the top across the 17 districts nationwide, showcasing the unity of the Taoyuan community. Moving forward, the Lions Club will continue working with the city government to cultivate local public welfare and fulfill its core value of giving back to society.

The Taoyuan District has long been dedicated to blood donation. In 2024, a total of 18,200 units of blood were collected in the Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli regions. Director Wang Yun-Long of the Hsinchu Blood Center remarked that with the addition of the “Tongji No. 3” Blood Donation Vehicle and the Blood Transport Vehicle, Taoyuan’s medical system will see a significant improvement in blood collection and distribution capacity. The low-temperature transport equipment ensures the quality and safety of blood products, providing timely support for emergency rescue and clinical surgical use.
The “Tongji No. 3” Blood Donation Vehicle was donated thanks to the leadership of Chairman Cheng Wen-Hua, who rallied collective support. Unlike the “Tongji No. 1” and “Tongji No. 2” Blood Donation Vehicles, the “Tongji No. 3” is an environmentally friendly hybrid vehicle with a larger and more comfortable space. It features a dual power system: it can drive to a designated donation site using gasoline, then switch to electric power to supply air conditioning and equipment, while still being capable of operating via its original engine system if needed.

The “Tongji No. 3” Blood Donation Vehicle will provide blood donation services in the Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli regions.
In addition to the Blood Donation Vehicle, the “Tongji No. 1” Blood Transport Vehicle was also donated. The Blood Transport Vehicle is equally important: all collected blood must be transported back to the blood center for further processing, after which qualified blood products are delivered to hospitals under appropriate storage temperatures for patient transfusion.

The “Tongji No. 1” Blood Transport Vehicle will improve efficiency in blood allocation and emergency support.
The Lions Club International Taiwan Headquarters first donated the “Tongji No. 1” Blood Donation Vehicle in 2006, followed by the “Tongji No. 2” in 2021. This year marks the donation of the third “Tongji No. 3” Blood Donation Vehicle and the “Tongji No. 1” Blood Transport Vehicle. Chairman Cheng Wen-Hua expressed gratitude to all members of the 51st Taoyuan District for their generosity in making this donation possible. Special thanks were extended to past Chairman Hu Chia-Chih, who initiated the donation of the “Tongji No. 2” Blood Donation Vehicle four years ago. Without his initiative, we might not have realized that blood donation vehicles retire and eventually need replacement.
With the addition of the “Tongji No. 3” Blood Donation Vehicle and the “Tongji No. 1” Blood Transport Vehicle, each vehicle symbolizes a commitment. Sincere gratitude goes to all partners for witnessing this historic moment. The Lions Club will continue to shoulder its social responsibility, passing on love and helping more patients in need of blood transfusions receive timely assistance.
