Blood donation is an act of safeguarding life, while caring for the environment is a commitment to protecting the future. Under the leadership of Hsinchu Blood Center Director Yun-Lung Wang, the team has organized river cleanup activities for three consecutive years since 2024, calling on colleagues, volunteers, and blood donors to join in environmental protection. By extending the spirit of compassion behind blood donation services to the protection of the land, the center has put the concept of environmental sustainability into practice through concrete action, demonstrating the importance that a medical charity organization places on social responsibility.

For many years, Hsinchu Blood Center has shouldered the important mission of blood collection, supply, and services in the Hsinchu, Taoyuan, and Miaoli areas. Under the supervision of the Taiwan Blood Services Foundation, in addition to continuously promoting blood safety and blood donation services to maintain the stable operation of the medical system, the center has also actively responded to the trend of environmental sustainability by integrating the spirit of “loving people and loving the Earth” into its daily work.

Therefore, beginning on November 7, 2024, Hsinchu Blood Center planned and held river cleanup activities. Director Yun-Lung Wang led the management team out of the office to carry out environmental cleaning and river cleanup along both sides of Douzaipu Creek near the Hsinchu Blood Center’s Ai-Hsin Building. In the first year, 12 people participated. The following year, Hsinchu Blood Center once again organized the activity, combining the river cleanup with an employee health promotion program and expanding the scale of the event. Colleagues, volunteers, and blood donors were invited to take part in community service, increasing the number of participants to 121.

This year, Hsinchu Blood Center held the activity in two sessions on March 30 and April 13, with a total of 159 participants, showing steady growth year by year. Participants bent down to pick up household waste scattered along the riverbanks, including discarded glass beverage bottles, PET bottles, aluminum foil drink cartons, coffee paper cups, empty lunch boxes, plastic bags, and other items. Nearby residents, seeing Hsinchu Blood Center restore the beautiful ecological environment around Douzaipu Creek, gave the team enthusiastic thumbs-up in appreciation.

Director Yun-Lung Wang stated that in the face of global climate change and the trend toward sustainable development, the role of enterprises and organizations is no longer limited to providing services; they must also actively participate in creating shared social good. Through three consecutive years of river cleanup activities, Hsinchu Blood Center has not only given back to the local community and strengthened neighborhood ties, but also echoed the sustainable spirit of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. Looking ahead, Hsinchu Blood Center will continue its efforts in blood donation services, environmental protection, and social care, ensuring that every blood donation conveys the hope of life and every public welfare action leaves behind positive change.
